Danny arrives with a mysterious woman called Eve who he first saw in the future; having rescued her from Christine Johnson, they endeavour to save everyone from the stampede. When the Arknomaly closes, at a campsite, Eve opens another Arknomaly shop to return the beasts and are all saved. Upon their return to the ARC, the team are shocked to discover that Eve is Helen Cutter in disguise, who takes Johnson hostage.
Arknomaly follows the very used formula of explorers landing on a planet to eventually get caught up within the politics/war/struggle of the place and eventually solve the problem or problems of said planet and saving the day. For Jon, it’s a relief to get away – on an easy assignment protecting a couple of do-gooders visiting a peaceful new planet. For Jasson, it’s a chance to put his theories to the test.
I just couldn’t really get all that invested in the characters. Not least of which because it seems like they had a road-map of epic fantasy tropes and were trying really hard to hit every major stop and as many roadside attractions as possible on the way. It’s fun to have a full-blown, all-color coffee table graphic novel. But nothing in the art made me want to stare at the page, looking over and over for more story.

Interesting idea, but not sure this quite worked for me.
Never a critical favourite, the French filmmaking magnate Luc Besson has resolutely persisted in following his own idiosyncratic taste, and this wayward fantasy has an individuality distinct from Hollywood formula. But boy, did Besson assemble a crack team to visualise it. Like science itself, sci-fi loves to probe the nature of what we call reality – in films as diverse as Blade Runnerand Solaris, questions about subjective perception versus objective fact form the core of the story. But few dig as deep to find the answers as Dark City, Alex Proyas’s grimy slice of existential angst masquerading as a noir-inflected thriller.
